Cana de pasta de Maiz: Purheni
Something different. LADF has set up an employment project for women in Michoacan. For over 2 years, LADF has been building on support to preserve a unique technique about making religious statues with a pasta from cana de maiz (the stem of the corn plant). This ancient technique from the Purhepecha Indians, originating in that area and converted by the Spanish into a technique to make images of Christ in the 17 th century, almost disappeared. Some groups of craftsmen are reviving it and LADF supports this, generating interest, knowledge and opening up channels for those who want to use it for something good. This is creating economic sustainability in dying villages in Michoacan, where illegal immigration to the USA has proved its destructive effects on the communities. Workshops Morelia University 2006

Exhibitions on Latin American Design in Europe
LADF is very active showing Latin American Design to the European audience. In 2004, LADF exhibited in the designers market Franja in Eindhoven and in tHuisfront 2004 in Amsterdam.

Cafe de Origen 2004
An organic, fair traded coffee brand needed a brand, a logo and a communication strategy. A group of European and Latin American Designers worked on this to create a completely new brand of coffee for the European market. The initiative has started and is successfully building market presence in the Netherlands.
